General Info
Humane Society of Berks County was established in 1889 and is based in Reading, Pa., offering shelter to dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils and ferrets. Its facility has kennel space for dogs, cat adoption room, lobby area and offices. The shelter conducts a humane education program in schools and for civic groups, offers puppy kindergarten classes and operates a low-cost neuter clinic. It receives funding from the city, county and some of the boroughs and townships, but it relies predominantly on the donations and gifts of the general public for its operating capital. The animals at Humane Society of Berks County are either picked up as strays or surrendered by their owners for various reasons.
